“TERIMA Kasih Wira Kita” (Thank you, our heroes) is the title of a very special show that will be presented on Aug 22 at 8.30pm at Panggung Bandaraya located at Jalan Raja in Kuala Lumpur, to mark the reopening of the city’s oldest theatre.
The show by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)’s Cultural Unit is dedicated to frontliners who have sacrificed time and risked their lives to carry out their duties in battling the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia.
“What better way to celebrate the opening of Panggung Banda-raya than by paying tribute to the very people, especially those in the health services, Fire and Rescue Department, National and Disaster Management Agency, police, military, DBKL and food delivery riders, who worked diligently during this period so that we can stay safe at home?’’ said DBKL Culture, Arts, Tourism and Sports Department director Mohd Nazam Harun.
“Rehearsals have started and the first show will be by invitation only. It has been challenging because we have to ensure that physical distancing SOP is followed, ’’ he said.
Mohd Nazam said Panggung Bandaraya was disinfected daily since rehearsals started.
The seating capacity has also been reduced from 287 people to 146, and Level 2 is now temporarily off limits.
As for the show, DBKL senior manager and culture unit head, Mohamed Fauzi Ahmad said it would include poetry recital, songs and dances performed by about 50 people, including 15 musicians.
“The invited personalities include National Laurette Datuk Seri A. Samad Said and Prof Dr Siti Zainon Ismail from the Poetry Association of Malaysia, ” he said.
Also performing are singers from Kopratasa, Syamel, Erni Zakri, Ayai and Zehra Zambri backed by DBKL’s Culture and Arts dancers and musicians.
The event will be streamed live on DBKL’s Facebook page. For details call DBKL at 03-2617 6289/6309
