Heavy rains cause triple threat in Betong


Floods caused by heavy rain inundated five villages and caused a part of a bridge to collapse in Betong district.

MIRI: Betong district in rural southern Sarawak has been hit by heavy rain over the past few days, causing floods, hillslope erosion and the collapse of a bridge link to a longhouse settlement.

Some 650 people in five villages were hit by flash floods of about 0.8m high, whereas a section of the bridge near Rh Ulu Rimbas longhouse collapsed after its supports were swept away by strong river current.
