Timely help for breastfeeding mums stranded in Singapore

JOHOR BARU: A special delivery was made from across the Causeway to a group of babies here.

The delivery comprised packs of frozen breast milk from mothers working in Singapore and unable to come home due to work commitments and the movement control order (MCO).

Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen Kah Eng, who was made aware of the situation, reached out to the women and offered help.

He said he received calls from Malaysian mothers who were unable to return home due to the strict measures taken by the Singapore government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“Many were still breastfeeding their infants and in a quandary.

“It is important for the infants to get their mothers’ milk, for growth and stronger immune system, ” he said.

Chen said the children were either staying with their father, grandparent or guardian while their mothers were away working.

“To help these women, they were told to pump and freeze breast milk to be sent back home.

“A transportation company helped to bring the frozen breast milk from Singapore into the country without any costs, ” he said. — By MOHD FARHAAN SHAH
