Follow rules at construction site, developers and contractors told

This construction site in Jalan Kuchai Maju 13, Cheras, is being sealed off by DBKL for failing to adhere to regulations.

DEVELOPERS and contractors have been sternly reminded to comply with set conditions and guidelines during construction of their development projects.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Enforcement Department senior deputy director Osman Ismail said they should not be complacent at the worksite.

“We want to ensure developers adhere to the approval plan, their foreign workers have work permits, and the construction site is clean and secure.

“Especially with the current rainy weather, they must ensure the drainage at the project site is not blocked, as this could cause flooding, ” he said.

Osman added that works at any construction site should not negatively impact nearby residents and businesses.

The contractor of one such project in Jalan Kuchai Maju 13, Cheras, felt the effects of not adhering to the rules when their worksite was sealed off during “Ops Tapak”.

The operation involved 65 officers from various DBKL departments, Fire and Rescue Department and the police.

During the operation, DBKL conducted cleanliness checks at the worksite and found puddles of water containing mosquito larvae.

A storage area and office that was built within the construction site was also demolished as it did not have DBKL’s approval and was a fire hazard.

“Four notices were issued under Section 70A (9) of the Road, Drainage and Building Act 1974 and Section 8 (3) AA of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975.

“The site has been sealed off for 14 days, during which the project contractor has to rectify and clean up the area, ” he said.

Osman said this was the 33rd joint operation this year.

“From January to November, we have checked 1,440 locations and issued 156 notices for various offences, ” he said.
