State youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said both events, to be held in conjunction with the sixth anniversary of Occupy Beach Street, calls for everyone to come together to have a feel of what a gem Penang really is.
He said the ‘I Love Penang Walk 2019’ on Dec 8, which is in its second consecutive year, is expected to attract up to 6,000 walkers.
The walk will start at Lebuh Pantai (Beach Street) at 7am.
It will take participants through Lebuh Gereja, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Chulia, Jalan Penang, Lebuh Campbell, Jalan Bucking-ham, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Acheh, Lebuh Carnavon, and Lebuh Dr Lim Chwee Leong.
Walkers will then return to Lebuh Pantai.
“We encourage all Penangites to seize the occasion to enjoy a brisk walk in the heritage enclave.
“It will be a good chance for them to soak up the mesmerising beauty of the enclave and express their immense love for Penang,” he said during a recent press conference at Komtar.
Soon added that the ‘OBS Christmas Run 2019’, to be held on Dec 22, is also expected to see some 6,000 participants.
“We hope to usher in the jovial festive season of Christmas,” said Soon.
“Beach Street will also come alive with an array of Christmas-themed performances and a meticulously designed Christmas morning market for all participants that Sunday morning.
“On top of that, participants will get to enjoy ‘Merry Moments’ with Santa Claus and Santarina, capturing picture-perfect memories.
“What’s more, participants will be granted a once-a-year opportunity to witness fantasy- filled snow falling in one of the historical streets in Penang.
“The ‘snow’ will create a one-of-a-kind experience that truly lives up to its buzz,” he said.
Soon said the run will allow participants to explore Lebuh Chulia, Lorong Love, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Lebuh Farquhar, Lebuh Light, Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, Lebuh Light, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Lebuh China before returning to Lebuh Pantai.
