Competition allows young entrepreneurs to lay ideas and build their network

The winners of the Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition.

MELAKA: Multimedia University (MMU) Melaka organised its second International Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition in an aim to hone creative graduates.

The event, under the purview of MMU’s Faculty of Business, Multimedia University, was jointly organised by ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and supported by Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre.

A total of 155 teams from international and local universities participated in the preliminary round that ended on Aug 14.

The top 20 teams were then selected to outline their social enterprise ideas in the final round to a panel of judges from the industry.

The finalist teams consists of participants from Birla Global University of India, Islamic University of Riau, Indonesia, Universitas Mercu Buana, Indonesia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), KDU Penang University College and Multimedia University. Event director Sharmila Rani Moganadas said the competition aims to bring together students from local and foreign universities to lay their social enterprise ideas, and at the same time, to create a platform for students to build network across universities, industry and professional bodies.

In addition, the event also aims to educate and create awareness on social entrepreneurship among students and the community.

The organising committee comprises 13 lecturers and 37 students from the Faculty of Business under the guidance of the Deputy Dean of Academic and Internationalisation Nun Shwu Huey.
