MANY may not know that Uncle Saba’s Poppadoms, a popular snack to hit the shelves in recent years, is a local brand.

Now, brand owner Bhavani Foods (M) Sdn Bhd is lending its support to Penang Starwalk 2019 for the first time.

The company is sponsoring more than RM10,600 worth of the crispy lentil snacks, or 3,600 packets, for the walk.

Bhavani Foods founder and group chairman SR Saba hoped the snack would give participants a healthy boost while walking.

“We introduced the papadam because we wanted people to have healthy snacks. Papadam is made from lentils, which are rich in protein and fibre, ” he said.

Since the 1970s, Bhavani Foods has been primarily involved in the trading and manufacturing of the uncooked Taj Mahal Pappad.

In early 2017, the company introduced Uncle Saba’s Poppadoms, which is currently exported to more than 25 countries worldwide.

The halal ready-to-eat treats are available in four flavours, and there are plans to introduce six new flavours to the market. The new flavours are hot and spicy, sweet and sour onion, black pepper BBQ, salt and vinegar, lime chilli and cheese.
