GET your spoons ready as Ben & Jerry’s has opened its first-ever Scoop Shop in Malaysia for Malaysian fans at Central Avenue Concourse, Sunway Pyramid Petaling Jaya.

In conjunction with the grand opening, Ben & Jerry’s greeted Malaysians with more than 10,000 free scoops of their favourite ice cream flavours.

For Malaysians, it is going to be a brand new experience of the famous American ice cream brand with the introduction to its 16 flavours at the Scoop Shop, including its global bestsellers – Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chunky Monkey, New York Super Fudge Chunk and Triple Caramel Chunk.

Unilever Malaysia food and refreshment marketing director Shiv Sahgal said, “We wish to bring the iconic taste of Ben and Jerry’s to Malaysian consumers. What better way to do so than to launch it here at Sunway Pyramid with free scoops for all to enjoy.”

The new ice cream shop has partnered with Eat x Dignity, a homegrown initiative that educates underprivileged children in entrepreneurship. The children’s baked goods will be sold at the Scoop Shop.

The first-ever Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop was opened in a renovated petrol station in Vermont, the United States, back in 1978.

The idea of two friends, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield who opened an ice cream shop, took a revolutionary turn when the brand later came to be recognised as America’s most loved ice cream.

The brand was acquired by Unilever in 2001 and the latter has kept Ben & Jerry’s socially conscious values that it is known for.

“We understand our customers are becoming more conscious of the ingredients they consume and the value it possesses, ”said Sahgal.

Ben & Jerry’s website states that its ice cream ingredients are non-GMO and are from fair-trade sources.

To promote sustainability, all Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be served in waffle or sugar cones instead of standard paper cups. They will also introduce biodegradable straws and wooden spoons to reduce the usage of single-use plastics in the store.

“We at Unilever are proud to introduce our products and ingredients that are of strong environmental values and the best of quality.”

“Ben & Jerry’s does not only serve customers with sweet delights but we also stand at the forefront of climate justice and this is our small step towards achieving it, ” added Sahgal.

Customers can also enjoy Ben & Jerry’s from the comfort of their homes with the bestselling flavours available in pint and mini-pint sizes at selected major supermarkets such as AEON, Jaya Grocers and Sam Croceria.
