JOHOR BARU: Families visiting and taking care of their loved ones at the Tunku Laksamana Johor Haematology Ward in Sultanah Aminah Hospital now have a place to rest and relax with the opening of “The Caring Home” here.
The centre, opened by Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, is equipped with facilities for patients requiring palliative care and for their caretakers and medical staff.
It is a joint project by charity organisation Mutiara Johor Corporation under Johor Corporation and Pizza Hut Malaysia.
Mutiara Johor chairman Datin Noor Laila Yahaya said the project was part of Pizza Hut Malaysia’s “Hut to Heart” initiative that champions a cancer-free life.
“Pizza Hut Malaysia is supporting this social project with focus on fighting against Malaysia’s fourth leading cause of premature death – cancer.
“Both Pizza Hut and Mutiara Johor Corporation reached out to Hospital Sultanah Aminah and shared the idea of lending support to cancer patients and their caregivers,” she said in her speech during the launch of centre.
Noor Laila said the centre was also made possible with contributions from Pizza Hut Malaysia’s customers who had donated RM0.20 from each purchase to the “Hut to Heart” initiative.
Johor Health Department director Dr Selahudden Abd Aziz lauded the project and hoped it will help improve the lives of patients as well as their caretakers.
“We hope this will be an example of how partnerships between corporations and the public sector can help the people,” he said.
Also present at the event was Johor health, culture and heritage committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar and Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
