THE Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and her family and friends made a day trip to Sekinchan on Labour Day.

Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, who acted as their tour guide, said he was honoured to host Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin’s second visit to the small town.

“Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin’s first time here was two years ago, while accompanying Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during an official visit.

“This time, Tengku Permaisuri requested for an informal visit so her family and friends could see the attractions in Sekinchan up close.

“Tengku Permaisuri is very happy to see how the thriving padi fields and fishing villages here are turning into tourist attractions.

“The entourage especially enjoyed visiting Ah Ma House, where they got to see how the Chinese make traditional local delicacies like kuih kapit, as well as shop for a variety of snacks and Sekinchan products,” he said.

Ng said Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin encouraged him to continue to push to make Sekinchan a tourist destination.

“The entourage also noted the friendly culture of the people here. We did not publicise her visit as it was informal, but those who happened to see Tengku Permaisuri made it a point to greet her.

“Sekinchan has its own unique features to offer, like the exotic food such as Belankas and Ayam Hutan in Lem-bah Bernam Restaurant, which everyone attests is like no other,” said Ng.

The entourage also visited Wisma Masri in Parit 7 to see the famous kuih bahulu factory and Khind factory which manufactures electrical appliances.

They then proceeded to Redang Beach to watch the sunset, followed by seafood dinner at Secret Garden Restaurant which has been around since the 1960s.

The trip ended with a visit to the Sky Mirror jetty in Kuala Selangor, to watch the “blue tears”, a natural night phenomenon caused by algae “Dinoflagellates” which glows in a magical blue hue.

The trip was jointly organised by Ng’s service centre and the Sekinchan Tourism Development Association.
