MORE than 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the World Health Day celebration meant to create health awareness among the public.

The event will be held from 8am to 1pm at SJKC Chong Cheng in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas, on Sunday.

Penang Adventist Hospital chief operating officer Dr Tean Wing Nyin said they hoped to reach out to the local community and raise public awareness on non-communicable diseases and issues related to obesity.

“It is also to encourage the public to take preventive measures towards such diseases.

“As we all know, prevention is better than cure,” he said during a press conference at Komtar recently.

Dr Tean said there would also be fun educational activities for children as well, such as a workshop for children to role play as doctors in the Teddy Medical Clinic themed, Bye Bye Germ.

“The children will receive lessons on hand-washing, teeth brushing, bandaging and other fun learning activities,” he said.

Also present were state executive council member Phee Boon Poh and Adventist Community Services director Tan Cheng Chee.

Other activities include dental screening, breast examination, Mega Heart exhibition, fat burning exercise, blood donation, health education activities for children, eye screening and health screening.
