CHINESE calligraphy enthusiasts are in for a treat as master Ng Swee Kheng will share his love for the art for two days on Jan 19 and 20.Taking place at Menara Star in Section 16, Petaling Jaya, this event, organised in conjunction with Chinese New Year, is open to everyone aged 12 and above for RM190 per person.
Participants will get to bring home their work of art featuring calligraphy greetings.
“The workshop is for beginners and I will teach them the history of Chinese calligraphy along with how to write both the traditional Da Zhuan and modern Kai Shu styles,” said Ng, who has been perfecting the art since he was 15 years old.
Ng, 50, who is also the Calligraphy Society of Malaysia Judging Committee chairman, said he would teach participants to write the word “forever” in Chinese, as the character bears the eight main fundamental strokes in calligraphy.
Participants will also learn the right postures while writing different types of calligraphy and Ng will guide them during the session.
“When we write small characters, we sit, but when we do bigger ones, we have to stand,” he said.
The workshop will be divided into four sessions, and participants can choose to attend either the 9am to 1pm slot or 2pm to 6pm.
All materials will be provided and participants can bring home the brush and at least two sets of artwork.
