Easier now for patients to make appointments


MAKING an appointment with a doctor at Pantai Hospital Penang is now a breeze, thanks to its innovative new PantaiPg app.

Available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, it allows one to select the date, time and doctor they wish to see, all from a mobile device.

As this can be done from almost anywhere —- be it in advance or on the actual day — it does away with the hassle of registering in person and then enduring lengthy waiting times.

Simply show up at the hospital in Bayan Baru at the chosen time, and check in at a kiosk with the QR code provided during the booking.

The system will then show the number of other patients in queue.

If there are many waiting, one can leave the hospital to attend to other things first, and only return when their turn nears.

Pantai Hospital Penang marketing manager Hazel Tan said the app has been well received since its introduction in July.

“When you’re sick or unwell, the last thing you’d want is to wait a long time to see the doctor. Now, you can plan your time accordingly.

“You can book an appointment while you’re at home, at the office, or even when you’re out of town — and at any time including after office hours.

“Just show up at the chosen time. Not only does this reduce your waiting time, it also frees up time for other things,” said Tan.

To use the app, one first has to register as a Pantai Family Rewards Club (FRC) member via www.pantaipenang.com. It is free and lasts for one’s lifetime.

This comes with 10 benefits, including one free healthscreening session worth RM128.

Enjoy birthday rewards like cash vouchers for free check-ups, and a point redemption programme not only for themselves, but also linked family members.

There is also a home transportation service for those living within a 20km radius of thehospital (subject to availabilityof vehicles), and home careservices for patients.

Through the FRC membership, one can also keep track of vaccination dates and get health screening reports online.

Tan said about 90% of the hospital was newly renovated.

“We’ve harnessed the power of digital technology to make healthcare easy and convenient for patients.”

She said the hospital now houses 190 beds and is staffed by 48 resident doctors, 13 sessional and 2 visiting specialist doctors.

It provides an extensive list of medical services and specialties, including cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, laparoscopic surgery, interventional radiology and orthopaedics.

There is also a one-stop Stroke Centre with dedicated rehabilitation equipment for patients.
