SEKINCHAN state seat winner Ng Suee Lim attributed his victory to many Sekinchan youths returning home to vote for him.
“They came back from out of town to support me,” said the fourth term state assemblyman.
He had won the seat with a greater majority -- 2,844 compared with 2,239 in the last elections – garnering a total of 7,863 votes against Barisan Nasional’s Lee Yee Yuan, 29. PAS religious teacher Ustaz Fadzin Taslimin, 69, received 2,351 votes.
Sekinchan DAP chairman Loo Kim Yong, 77, who is Ng’s ardent supporter, said, “I hope the new government will be a clean, efficient and trustworthy government.”
Lee said he was grateful for the support and guidance he received from the people of Sekinchan.
“I accept who the people have chosen. I hope the new government will help the people in a better way,” he said.
He added that he would continue to help out in community work in Sekinchan.
Former Umno member Muslimin Yahya, 51, who contested under Pakatan Harapan’s banner and won the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, said the narrow 714-vote majority was a bonus as he had expected a lower figure.
Muslimin, who had joined PKR mere days before contesting the seat, received 17,350 votes while incumbent Budiman Mohd Zohdi, 46, of Barisan Nasional received 16,636 votes.
PAS candidate Mohamed Salleh Husin, 70, received 7,220 votes compared with more than 18,000 votes he received in the 2013 general election.
Despite his loss, he said he would continue to serve the community such as providing food aid, helping the less literate with official documentation and giving religious classes.
Meanwhile, lawyer Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, 32, from Barisan won the Sungai Panjang state seat with a 2,084-vote majority. He received 10,530 votes while Pakatan’s (Amanah) Mariam Abdul Rashid, 57, received 8,446 votes. PAS’ Mohd Razali Saari, 36, got 6,999 votes.
