MELAKA: KPJ Healthcare Bhd (KPJ) will collaborate with state-owned Putra Specialist Hospital (PSH) to build a hospital here this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the RM150mil KPJ Melaka Specialist Hospital would be built on a 1.6ha site in Paya Rumput near the Hang Jebat Stadium.

He said the ground breaking ceremony would be held in April this year and the hospital was expected to open by end of 2019.

“The hospital will have 400 beds,” he said after chairing the weekly state exco meeting at Seri Negeri Complex in Ayer Keroh.

He said KPJ had an excellent record in healthcare services and Melaka was lucky to be chosen as one of the locations for KPJ’s expansion plan.

Idris said the new KPJ hospital would further boost the state’s medical tourism programmes.

He said tourists here on medical tourism would have more options in local health services once the hospital opens.

“Besides the planned KPJ hospital, people can opt for treatments in Putra Specialist Hospital, Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre, Mahkota Medical Centre and Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh,” he said, adding that the new hospital would provide employment opportunities to the local community.
