LESS THAN a month after opening their first boutique in Malaysia, jeweller Roberto Coin is introducing a special limited-edition pendant to their collection, to mark the lunar new year and for a good cause.

The 18K rose gold pendant is priced at RM2,018 and is available at the boutique in Starhill Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.

With only 38 pieces of Year of the Dog pendants available in the country, the Italian designer hopes Malaysians will dig deep and make that purchase as all proceeds from the sale will be channelled to SPCA Selangor.

In the US, Coin said he was an active member of many charities and foundations.

Therefore many associate him with the character Robin Hood.

“People seem to think I am very good in taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor,” said the 73-year-old who was in town for the event.

Coin, who has three dogs and four cats, said caring for animals was something he enjoyed very much.

His company has made more than 170 different animalier pieces in the last 15 years and Coin will soon launch a book on it.

The limited edition 18K rose gold Year of the Dog pendant is in collaboration with SPCA Malaysia.

He also shared with guests his famed Animalier Collection, which features animal-inspired rings, bracelets and earrings. This was where the idea to create the Year of the Dog pendant came about, to celebrate the Chinese zodiac animal for this year.

He hoped the brand would be a “local” store to Malaysians looking for jewellery as it caters to customers of all ages.

“We are sure we will be able to please you in Malaysia just like how we have done in 62 other countries worldwide,” he said.

Also present at the launch were SPCA Selangor chairman Christine Chin, YTL Corporation managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh and Italian Ambassador to Malaysia Cristiano Maggipinto.

“Fundraising for animals in Malaysia is tough, so having an exclusive opportunity to work with Roberto Coin is a huge boost for us,” said Chin.

She also spoke about the Stray- Free Selangor campaign, which aims to clear the streets of Selangor from strays in a humane and compassionate way before making a promise to invite their royal patron Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin to shop at the boutique.

The store showcases the brand’s ampler selection of creations including their iconic collections including Pois Mois, Black Jade, New Barocco and Princess.

The brand has captured the hearts of A-list celebrities including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Katherine Heigl, Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba.
