STAR Media Group’s design and graphics section used their creativity for charity while supporting the #DaretoCare campaign.

Handwoven stuffed dogs made in conjunction with the Year of the Dog were sold and the proceeds were used to buy essentials to be donated to the welfare homes under the initiative.

Editorial Art and Design senior manager Tung Eng Hwa said the department filled up 30 bags with items such as Milo packets, biscuits, stationery and watercolour sets.

“We have been doing this charity sale annually for the past three years.

“Since there is the #DaretoCare campaign this year, we decided to donate the proceeds from the sale of these stuffed dogs to buy essentials in support of the initiative,” Tung said, adding that more than RM1,400 was collected through the sale of 19 stuffed dogs.

He said the #DaretoCare initiative made efforts to do good easier as the public would find it difficult to reach out to homes in need of assistance.

“I prefer to give to homes directly rather than help people (who ask for donations) on the street as they might be from syndicates,” he said.

Tung said the stuffed dogs were made with love by graphic artist Norlidah Ramli, who started working on them late last year in anticipation of the charity sale.

#DaretoCare is a joint charity initiative by SkyWorld Development Group and Star Media Group in efforts to address the needs of welfare homes in Malaysia.

The campaign encourages the public to help the less fortunate by filling specially created brown paper bags with gifts or essential items that would be distributed to the homes.

The filled bags can be dropped off at SkyWorld’s property galleries in Kuala Lumpur (Sentul, Setiawangsa, Bukit Jalil and Setapak) or at Menara Star, until tomorrow, and the developer will collect and distribute the items to selected welfare homes.

Alternatively, donors can get the paper bags at any of the propertygalleries, or drop off the donations directly.

As a token of appreciation to donors, SkyWorld is giving away GSC movie tickets when they drop off their donations (terms and conditions apply) at the property galleries.
