Mall marks first anniversary with rewards for shoppers

Sunway Velocity Mall, which celebrated its first anniversary on Dec 8, has a line-up of activities, promotions, freebies and contest with prizes worth up to RM380,000.

The celebration of the newest Sunway mall began with the unveiling of the “1 logo” followed by the announcement of the grand prize for the Spend and Win campaign, a Nissan X-Trail 2.5l CVT.

Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer H.C. Chan said Sunway Velocity Mall had bucked the trend of newer malls that opened with low occupancy.

“With an opening occupancy of 75%, it has grown to 98% today, despite the prevailing soft market conditions over the last couple of years.

“Similarly, our other Kuala Lumpur mall, Sunway Putra Mall, is enjoying 95% occupancy.

“The traffic on per square foot basis in Sunway Velocity Mall matches that of our 20-year-old flagship mall, Sunway Pyramid,” he said.

Sunway Velocity Mall marked the group’s second mall in Kuala Lumpur, more than two years after the first, which was Sunway Putra Mall.

“For us, this is especially significant and meaningful as we bring the Sunway Malls experience to more urban markets.

“The mall industry is one of the most robust and vibrant industries in Malaysia although at a relatively young age of 44 years.

“The growth of urbanisation, rising affluence and change in lifestyle will be key catalysts.

“For us, we are committed to growing long term. Today, we have a portfolio of five malls under our group, from a nett lettable area of less than one million square feet from the first phase of Sunway Pyramid, we have quadrupled to over four million square feet,” he said

In line with the spirit of giving during the festive season, Sunway Velocity Mall in collaboration with F&N Holdings Sdn Bhd invited 55 underprivileged children from Persatuan Kebajikan Rumah Victory Malaysia, Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home and Rumah Sayangan Charis for a day filled with activities such as treasure hunt and Amazing Race challenge. The children also went home with goodies bags.

Another highlight of the evening was the official presentation of the Malaysia Book of Records certificate to Sunway Velocity Mall for its “Biggest Multiple Layer Advertising LED Panel” measuring 765sq m.

The Spend and Win campaign is on until Jan 1.

Shoppers who want to participate have to spend a minimum of RM100 in two receipts to stand a chance of winning the prizes which also include a cruise holiday to Japan, diamond jewellery, flight tickets to London and luxury bedding.
