Village lives up to its coffee name

Chen (fourth from left) and some of the villagers with the coffee tree planted by Perak executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon about two years ago. The tree is being cared for by 75-year-old villager Liow Chee Ming (third from left).

The locals first stumbled on the word coffee, pronounced as kopi in Cantonese, in the 19th century when they also found out that it was a drink loved by the British and the rich.
