Taking pleasure in simple local treats

Agus Corner

TIRED of the usual lunch and teatime offerings? Then take a drive to Agus Corner in Sungai Ramal Baru, Kajang, to indulge in something a little different.

The stall which started with only cendol some 14 years ago, sells 10 types of treats today.

They include rojak, chicken rice, ais kacang as well as various soups, including the famous bakso (meatball soup).

The bakso, which consists of one large meatball and three medium-sized ones, is served with chilli sauce and special bakso sambal.

Owner Rahmawati Muktar Jafar, 58, said she receives the most number of customers before and after Friday prayers.

Rahmawati started the stall some 14 years ago serving only cendol. Today, there are 10 types of food available.

With three helpers, Agus Corner also offers catering services for weekend functions, such as weddings and birthday parties.

Fatimah Mohd Amin, 72, who is a regular at the stall, said her cravings for fried noodles with gravy can always be satisfied here.

“I prefer this version of the dish compared to the dry one,” she added.

Another regular, Mohd Fairuz Mohd Shariff, 52, said he always enjoys the rojak and ais kacang.

“This stall is the best place to come to on hot days as it is under a big tree, making it breezy,” he said.

Mohd Fairuz, who works in Jakarta, Indonesia, said Agus Corner is his choice whenever he is in town.

“The ais kacang here is served with a generous amount of evaporated milk and I enjoy that although it is not good for my health,” he said with a small laugh.

Agus Corner is open on weekdays from 9am to 7.30pm. For enquiries, call 011-2751 7120 (Watie).
