NO Eyed Deer restaurant in Penang has just the thing to revive those who find it hard to get out of bed on weekends – the Woke Up Late Breakfast.
A hearty dish of two chicken sausages, two sunny side up eggs, baked beans and a Yorkshire pudding, it will get one going for the day, although belatedly.
It will be available at the cosy eatery located in the Prima Tanjung business complex in Tanjung Tokong for lunch on weekends from today.
Proprietor Ken Low said they were streamlining their weekend lunch menu and this amusingly named dish would be among their offerings.
“Fret not if you wake up too late for a typical breakfast because this lunchtime meal gives you something similar.
“The sausages are custom-made by our supplier while the Yorkshire Pudding has been really popular since we introduced it earlier.
“This seems to be a great combination,” said Low of the dish.
Other weekend lunch offerings are Laotian Laksa, Vietnamese Pho and No Eyed Deer Summer Bee Hoon.
They have also added Hainanese Chicken Chop, an old-time classic done the authentic way. And the secret is in the gravy.
Low said the gravy is made from scratch with a good buttery roux and chicken stock that is cooked for several hours overnight.
And it is also flavoured with an original mix of herbs and spices.
“I picked up the recipe from an old friend.
“There aren’t many really good Hainanese Chicken Chops in Penang nowadays and we believe crowds will love this,” Low said.
It is served with a slice of toasted Hainanese bread so diners can mop up the mouth-watering gravy at the end.
The Woke Up Late Breakfast and Hainanese Chicken Chop are each priced at RM19.80nett each.
Those after something lighter may go for the Vietnamese Summer Rolls or salads.
In addition, there is also Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding on Sundays, which is a regular crowd-puller.
For weekdays, lunch offerings are the pho, laksa, bee hoon, summer rolls, salads and some snack items.
For dinner daily, the eatery serves a full Western menu.
Regardless of when you visit, any time is a good time for Root Beer Float.
With fizzy goodness mixed with vanilla ice cream, it is a tried and tested thirst quencher.
No Eyed Deer opens from noon to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm daily (closed on Tuesdays).
