A TOTAL of 1,336 children aged between four and 16 created a new record after their participation in a hand rub technique demonstration in KWC Fashion Mall, Kuala Lumpur earned an entry in the Malaysia Book of Records.
Organised by Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare College in partnership with Global Art Malaysia, the record entry was for the Most Number of Children Participating in a Hand Rub Technique Demonstration (Dry Technique).
The programme was organised to encourage good hygiene habits among children that will help in early prevention of transferable diseases and illnesses.
Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare College chief executive officer Shanaz Mawji said hand hygiene should be a vital part of our lifestyle to maintain good health and prevent diseases among children and their families.
“About 1.8 million children under the age of five die each year from diarrhoeal diseases and pneumonia, the two top killers of young children around the world.
“Hand-washing is like a do-it-yourself vaccine. It is simple and effective and comprises simple steps.
“It also reduces diarrhoea-related deaths by 50% according to the US Centres of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“Hand hygiene is the best way to protect you and your family from getting sick,” she said.
Led by head of school Molly Tong, deputy head Hemalatha and RSDH College dean Moorthy, the children received a video tutorial, pictorial handouts and three practice sessions with assistance from RSDH College students and staff.
Also present at the event were Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare group chief executive officer Bronte Kumm and Global Art Malaysia chief executive officer and founder Mahair Goh.
Senior research journalist Nurasyikin Ramil, who represented Malaysia Book of Records, was also present to officially witness the event and present the MBR certificate.
