THOUSANDS of workers who rely on the LRT service to get to work were late for work today due to a glitch at the Kelana Jaya line.
Although the line is back on track the service is not fully restored as at noon.
Signalling and communication system in Ampang Park, KLCC, Kg Batu and Dang Wangi stations are still down.
Frustrated commuters started posting comments and pictures on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as early as 7.30am as a large number of commuters were stranded at the stations along the Kelana Jaya line.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Rapid KL LRT and monorail services issued a statement at 11am, apologising for the disruption and inconvenience caused to commuters.
“We had glitches in the signalling and communication system between the Ampang Park and Dang Wangi stations and had to power down the line at several stations in the city centre. We are attending to the situation,” said Kelana Jaya LRT Line Chief Operating Officer Ismail Abdullah.
Trains ferried commuters at a slow pace up until Dang Wangi and Ampang Park stations, after which they had to disembark and seek alternative methods of transportation.
Rapid Rail deployed several shuttle buses at various locations around the city centre in order to ferry stranded customers to their destinations.
“Commuters who have entered the paid area of the stations may seek refund from our Customer Service Offices,” Ismail added in the statement.
Posts on Twitter and Facebook revealed that many commuters spent as much as two and a half hours travelling this morning and some were still stuck on the trains as late as 11.30am.
