KULAI: A tanker carrying crude palm oil overturned and spilled oil along Jalan Ayer Hitam here.
The 10am incident caused a massive traffic jam in the area.
Kulai Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Masnawi Wardjin said the tanker was transporting some 35 tonnes of palm oil to Pasir Gudang.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit two cars travelling in the opposite direction,” he said, adding no injuries were reported.
He added that the department was using sawdust to control the spill.
In an unrelated case, 16 men were arrested and eight gambling slot machines were seized during a raid at a family entertainment outlet in Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said that all the suspects, aged between 20 and 50 years, were nabbed during a raid at Pusat Hiburan Keluarga Everyday Bonus Sdn Bhd in Puteri Mart at around 11.30pm.
He said investigations showed that the outlet, which was running as a family entertainment centre, was only given a licence to operate 60 entertainment machines.
“Online gambling was taking place at the premises which was also operating beyond the permitted hours,” he said, adding police had also seized cash totalling RM5,000.
In another case, police arrested six people, including four teenagers and two Indonesians. for motorcycle theft in Kluang.
Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Laham said that the six suspects, aged from 16 to 36 years, were arrested in Taman Sri Lambak and Ladang Koperasi between Feb 25 and 28.
Police recovered three motorcycle frames and their components from the suspects.
