EIGHTEEN non-governmental organisations and residents associations (RAs) submitted a five-page memorandum in support of the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) to Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali’s office, calling for Kidex to be built to overcome traffic congestion and increase connectivity.
Azmin’s private secretary Hilman Idham received the memorandum at the lobby of the State Secretariat building in Shah Alam.
Section 5 RA president Mohamed Rafiq Fazaldin handed over the memorandum while Petaling Jaya Selatan Rukun Tetangga chairman and coordinator Shamsuddin Hassan and National Public Transport Users Association president Ajit Johl together with other association members stood with them in a show of support.
Ajit said they believed there was a need for Kidex as it would alleviate the traffic congestion in Jalan Kelang Lama, Jalan Templer, Taman Dato’ Haron, Taman Medan and Jalan Gasing.
“All these roads are old traffic channels and we need alternative roads to enhance connectivity,” he said.
Rafiq, who had given a similar memorandum to Petaling Jaya City Council, urged the Selangor government to include Kidex in the Selangor traffic masterplan.
Hilman, who listened to the views of Rafiq, Shamsuddin and Ajit for close to 10 minutes, said the memorandum would be studied and the the points highlighted would be taken note of.
“Selangor government has a few mechanisms such as public hearings and this project proposal will go through the due process at the state level,” added Hilman.
