JOHOR BARU: The police have thwarted a robbery and break-in syndicate operating in and around the Seri Alam area.
Johor police chief Comm Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the syndicate was believed to be linked to at least six of such cases in the area.
He said that following a raid conducted at around 9.30pm raid on Jan 23 in Taman Cendana, Pasir Gudang, they nabbed three suspects aged between 21 and 28 believed to be involved in the cases.
“All suspects will be remanded for investigations and one of the suspects has six previous criminal records including for drugs,” he told a press conference.
From the raid, the police also confiscated six cell phones, three cameras, two tablet devices, an electronic dictionary, three laptops, a Play Station console, a television and also a baseball bat.
The case had been classified under Section 395 of the Penal Code and Section 397 for armed robbery and for gang robbery respectively.
Separately, Comm Mohd Mokhtar said that a 38-year-old man was detained for stealing a BMW car, which was previously believed to have been stolen in Kangkar Pulai.
He said that the man, who had four previous criminal records, was detained in Taman Mutiara Rini at 8.15pm on Jan 23.
“His urine also tested positive for drugs was remanded until Jan 27 for questioning,” he said, adding that with the suspect, the police successfully solved three cases around Nusajaya including a vehicle theft and two robberies.
Comm Mohd Mokhtar said among the other items confiscated from the case were various tools including two knives, a piece of blade, two modified wires, a wire cutter and a pair of gloves.
The case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine, upon conviction.
