The group was joined by a convoy of 20 vehicles including a bas, four lorries, two vans, and several 4WDs.
Its division chief Datuk Shabudin Yahaya said RM70,000 had been allocated for the four-day mission which included providing food, cooking utensils, and cleaning up the affected areas.
“We’re really concerned about their suffering and we would like to assist them to reduce their burden,” added Shabudin after launching the volunteer mission at the Tasek Gelugor Commercial Centre in Tasek Gelugor recently.
Also present were Sungai Dua assemblyman Mohamad Yusoff Mohd Noor and Permatang Berangan assemblyman Omar Abdul Hamid.
Shabudin, who is also the Penang Regional Development Authority chairman, said besides distributing food items, the volunteers would also help clean up the affected houses.
