Since its inaugural celebration in 1995, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples has been observed annually on Aug 9.

Malaysia commemorates the celebratory day on the same date, having done so since 2008, through the initiative of the Indigenous Peoples Network of Malaysia (Joas).
