Good news! It's no longer necessary, or at least essential, to go to a salon to get a manicure worthy of a film star. TikTok is full of tips, each more affordable and effective than the next, for doing your nails at home.

The latest involves creating chrome nails with eyeshadow.

The chrome nails trend that has been making waves on social media for several months now – along with a host of new trends for the Autumn/Winter 2023 season – can be (very) easily recreated at home.

A tip found on the Chinese social network TikTok even makes it possible to get the look in no time, and without spending any money, since the products you need are probably already in your bathroom.

In fact, it turns out that eyeshadow is the new beauty go-to for nail art aficionados, thanks to its affordability and the ease with which it can be used to recreate the look of a professional manicure.

The #chromenails hashtag has already racked up one-and-a-half billion views on TikTok, and you only have to scroll through the associated posts for a few minutes to realise that eyeshadow has become an indispensable manicure tool.

This was already seen recently with the rise of vampire nails, an ultra-chic manicure that's gaining in popularity in the run-up to Halloween, and which can be achieved with black or gray eyeshadow.

But it's chrome nails in particular that are now putting to use this unusual, effective – and inexpensive – trick, which will save some people a trip to the salon.

Such is the success of this beauty hack that its very own hashtag, #eyeshadownails, has already surpassed 46 million views.

Affordable and ecological

And putting it into practice couldn't be easier. All you need is a base coat, a nail polish (in the colour of your choice, depending on the desired effect), an eyeshadow or an eyeshadow palette, and a top coat.

The idea is to use the eyeshadow to get the coveted chrome look.

There are two ways to achieve this. The first is to apply a base coat, followed by the varnish of your choice, then a pearlescent eyeshadow, and then fix everything in place with a top coat.

The second is based on the same steps, except that instead of the classic varnish, it's possible to use just eyeshadow, enhancing the chrome effect. And in less than 10 minutes, you're all done!

Not content with being easy, quick and effective, this tip saves time and money, while helping to reduce waste – depending on how much product you use.

The reason is simple: powder eyeshadow palettes can be kept for between one and two years, provided they're stored in a dry place. But few people use all the shadows.

Some palettes contain more than 20 shades, but you usually only really use a select few colours.

This trick can therefore help you to optimize your purchases by putting to use the eyeshadow shades you tend to neglect for doing your nails – a small but no less worthy contribution towards reducing waste. – AFP Relaxnews
