We may be going through a heat wave, but that doesn’t mean neglecting our makeup.

Here’s a look at the very apt Summer 2023 makeup trends which will make you look hot (pun intended) .

Endless options for the eyes

When it comes to eyeshadow, experiment with bold, bright shades such as hot pink, sunny yellow and ocean blue, hues that make a statement and make your eyes pop.

To make your bright eyeshadow last longer, begin by applying an eyeshadow primer, which will help your shadow stay on longer, while also preventing creasing.

Then, apply your selected colour with a brush, blending it outwards towards the crease. For a more dramatic look, add a second or third shade to create a gradient effect.

Cosmopolitan predicted that cool-toned eyeshadows such as dusty mauves, blush pinks and smokey greys would become the new neutrals in 2023, which we are seeing on celebrities like Gigi Hadid.

The magazine suggested using soft and hazy washes of colour that make a lived-in appearance around the eyes to create an enchanting look that you can complement with winged-out pencil eyeliner for a smudged effect.

Gen-Z may have tried to cancel winged eyeliner, but it looks like the trend is here to stay, as are plenty of other liner trends.

One such trend is an extension of the wing, called “siren eyes”, which is achieved by patting a waterproof eyeliner pencil on the tip of an angled liner brush, then stamping it on the inner and outer corners of your eyes for a crisp wing, according to Cosmopolitan.

Extra radiant skin

A fresh, dewy complexion is a must for summer makeup, and to achieve this, start by applying a lightweight, hydrating moisturiser to your skin, followed by a tinted moisturiser or a lightweight foundation.

To add a little warmth to your complexion, contour your cheekbones, temples, and jawline with a bronzer that’s a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone for a natural-looking effect.

Add a bit of extra glow to your face using a liquid highlighter on the high points, such as your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.

Perfecting the pout

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with different lip colours. From bold reds to bright pinks, there’s a shade for every occasion. Here are some of the hottest lip colour trends for summer:

InStyle Australia cites the timeless bold lip trend as one of the top picks for 2023.

The publication said that the focus is shifting towards applying bolder and darker lip colours while using fewer complexion products, and the trend is all about incorporating a pop of colour to your look.

This isn’t to say that bold is the only way to go, because where lips are concerned, pretty much everything is acceptable in 2023.

From matte nude hues and two-toned colours to metallic shades or just plain, tinted gloss, anything goes when it comes to lips.

Lip stains are super popular as well, as they are perfect for a natural-looking, long-lasting lip colour. Choose shades such as peach or coral for a fresh summer look.

Double dose mascara

Mascara is an essential part of any makeup routine, as it can help enhance your natural lashes and add definition to your eyes. There are tons of products out there that do everything from lengthening to adding volume, depending on the look you’re trying to achieve.

According to Cosmetify.com, layering mascara is one of 2023’s popular trends, which aims at achieving lashes that resemble false lashes by applying at least three coats of mascara, including the bottom lashes.

For optimal results, select a mascara with a super volumising and lifting formula.

Warm glow

Blusher, whether it’s the more traditional powder version or the newer liquid offerings, is the perfect way to add a pop of colour to your cheeks, and just a hint of it is enough to give your face more definition.

Shades of pink are your best bet if you don’t have time to experiment with other hues, but peach is a great option to give your cheeks a fresh, natural-looking glow.

Don’t be afraid to try out other shades, like coral, which is perfect if you want your cheeks to stand out on an otherwise bare face.

Summer makeup is all about experimenting with bright and bold hues, layering products and taking your look to the next level.
