Tiger, tiger, burning bright? Fashion celebrates the animal for Chinese New Year

As the Year of the Tiger will be coming up soon, expect a lot of style offerings to suit the theme. From animal prints to motifs of the creature, it is bound to be a bold time indeed.

According to Chinese zodiac, the tiger is seen as beautiful, powerful and confident. These very qualities also embody fashion brands and what they aim for in their products.

To mark the the festivities, Coach has dressed up its dinosaur mascot as a tiger. The cute T-rex appears in a striped suit for all the collection’s designs. Of course, they also come in a festive red hue symbolising luck, happiness and good fortune.

Pedro’s offerings are meant for empowered, fashion-conscious men. The tiger’s recognisable silhouette and distinctive stripes can be spotted on sneakers. Referencing traditional Chinese paintings, each one features textured tiger-stripe fabric that closely resembles a painting.

Fluid strength

Working with American painter Kenny Scharf, Dior serves up a reinterpretation of the Water Tiger – the zodiac’s element this coming year. Prints, embroidery and patches bearing the motif appear on shirts, knitwear and denim pants, as well the line’s accessories.

A roaring time

Men who are into watches should look out for Swatch’s specially designed tiger timepiece. A bio-sourced matte black printed strap and red loops star on this bio-ceramic beauty. Additionally, a gold dial depicts strength with a subtle tiger head graphic.
