Whenever Peranakan scholar Peter Lee Peng Eng travelled overseas, he would buy batik as a gift for his mother. As years went by, the Singaporean fell in love with the textile. Hence, it’s no surprise he ended up an avid batik collector and even wrote a book on it.

As a freelance independent researcher and art consultant for museums, Lee, 54, curates exhibitions for museums. He is honorary curator of the National University of Singapore's Baba House.
