Vote for your hottest Malaysian sports stud from our list of athletes, who not only win trophies but charm us with their sexiness.

Athletes, for better or worse, are magnets for our spectator eyes. While we applaud their achievements in the arena, we also appreciate the time and effort they put into being deserving of our undivided attention. Of course, it doesn’t hurt at all if they’re exceptionally good looking.

The 15th Laureus Sports Awards, dubbed the Oscars of the sports world, is being held tonight, March 26, in Kuala Lumpur. As the city plays host to the world’s most famous and successful athletes, we’re confident that their collective sexiness will up the temperature to heatwave magnitude.

But we believe the world doesn’t have a monopoly on sexy athletes. For this lighthearted listicle, part one of two, we look at some of Malaysia’s sexiest male sports personalities whose handsome visages have inspired more than their fair share of pin-up crushes, hero worship, and adoring googly-eyed stares of wonderment.

We also invite readers to participate in our poll to pick Malaysia’s hottest male athlete from the list below. You can find the poll embedded in the pages across the Lifestyle channels at The Star Online.

And now, a drumroll, please.

AZLAN ISKANDAR, 31, squash

The former national squash player, once ranked in the world’s top 10, is the product of an interesting cocktail of Scottish, Norwegian, Chinese, Indian and Malay parentage. And judging by his handsome looks, that's one heck of a mix. After eight years of competitive playing, Azlan is now retired from the sport and currently lives in London with his wife, Ng Yiu Lin. Hey, is that a sexy British accent we hear?

BRENDAN GAN, 25, football

Australian-born Brendan has chiselled features that could cut you if you hugged him hard enough – and with one look at his lanky physique, who wouldn’t want to? After notable stints playing for Sydney FC and Sabah FA, the midfielder/striker now plays for Kelantan FA. Standing tall at 178cm, this athlete charms his way through life with a lazy Aussie drawl and a killer smile. We're not sure about the moustache yet, but it'll grow on us.

JAZEMAN JAAFAR, 21, car racing

Baby-faced Jazeman started go-karting at the age of six, and eventually moved on to bigger machines in Formula Renault, Formula BMW, Formula Three and Formula Renault 3.5 races. Don’t let his angelic grin fool you – once he's on the track, Jazeman is a devil on hot wheels, and you don’t want to mess with that. Once off the track, however…

JOSIAH NG, 34, cycling

Well, how can we put this? Josiah possibly has one of the best bodies on this list – there, we said it. This professional track cyclist has represented Malaysia in the Olympics three times, and done us proud in several other international competitions. If you ever meet Josiah in person, try asking him nicely if he could take his shirt off for you. He might say yes.

This Kelantanese goalie may be the reason why more Malaysians have tuned in to watch the national football team play in the last few years. With his Oriental features – which got him the nickname Apex in the first place – Khairul is one heck of a PHD (pretty hot daddy). Oh, did you not know that this new father floods his Instagram with baby-daddy photos? They're so sweet, our eyes are hurting from candy crushes.

What’s better than a hot, athletic footballer with a boyish charm? Two of them. Twins Mohd Aidil Zafuan Abdul Radzak (defender) and Mohd Zaquan Adha Abdul Razak (striker) have taken the local football scene by storm, not just with their skills on the pitch but their doubly good looks as well. The Negeri Sembilan natives sure make those national football jerseys look good.

PETER DAVIS, 33, mixed martial arts

Ripped body? Check. Super hot features? Check. Lethal athlete? Most definitely check. This 180cm heartthrob, born to an English dad and a Malaysian Chinese mum, isn’t only an MMA champ, he's an actor and a model. We’re guessing that if his strength can't bring his opponents down, his arresting good looks will force them into submission.

Be careful when you Google ‘Syed Adney’ because you might fall in love with his charming smile and exotic looks. Born in Liverpool with British-Malay parentage, you’d be forgiven if you thought he was a European player passing through Malaysia. Sorry to break this, ladies, but he's already dating model/actress Siti Saleha. For the record, Syed’s sister is none other than actress Sharifah Sofea.
