Ginger shots have been all the rage for years, whether for people fighting off colds or the flu.

While no guarantees can be offered, here’s one version of the immune booster, which tastes delicious, although be warned that it is quite spicy too.

It is easy to make a larger batch of the mixture and store it in a sterile glass bottle in the fridge for a few days.

The star ingredient is, of course, ginger, which has anti-inflammatory properties that boost your circulation and support your immune system.

Ingredients for 750ml:

  • 230g-270g fresh organic ginger
  • One teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • One tablespoon of honey
  • One good pinch of freshly ground pepper
  • 600ml tangerine juice.

Method:

  • Cut the unpeeled ginger into 2-3cm pieces.
  • Place the ginger in a powerful blender along with 300ml of the juice and the remaining ingredients, and blend for a few minutes until everything is well chopped.
  • Pass the mixture through a food mill – or alternatively, place it in a sieve and press it through thoroughly using a large spoon.

Collect the juice in a measuring jug as you go.

  • Return the remaining pulp to the blender and blend well once more with the remaining tangerine juice.
  • Press this second batch through the sieve again and add it to the juice from the first batch.

This second extraction is what furnishes that distinctive sharpness.

  • Finally, pour the finished immune booster into a clean glass bottle and place it in the fridge straight away.

It will keep there for several days, assuming you drink one to two shots each day. – dpa
