  •        If possible, do not travel to countries currently experiencing outbreaks of H5N1 bird flu in poultry and humans. 

  •        If you do travel to these countries, avoid going to poultry farms or live animal markets. 

  •        Wash your hands properly and frequently, with water and soap, or waterless alcohol-based hand sanitisers. 

  •        Cook all poultry products, including meat and eggs, thoroughly. 

  •        Do not purchase poultry products that are sold at extremely low prices, as these products may have been smuggled in from affected countries. 

  •        All employees of poultry farms (including backyard farms) should wear proper protective clothing and practise good hygiene. 

  •        If you have come into contact with poultry animals and are experiencing a fever or sore throat, go to the hospital immediately.
