THE National Morbidity and Mortality Study completed in 1996 revealed one startling fact – about 30% of Malaysian adults suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure). It is no wonder that our health authorities are concerned about this problem.  

According to Datuk Dr Zaki Morad Mohd Zaher, head of Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s Nephrology Department, this high prevalence is worrying because hypertension has the ability to render a person unproductive by taking away his or her ability to work or to function properly.
