Great seafood at Restoran Kauboi in Langkawi

RESTORAN Kauboi in Pekan Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah, is one makan place that needs no introduction.

This Chinese restaurant brought back fond memories when I covered the LIMA (Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace) shows back in 1997 and 1999.

I was treated to a nice dinner spread here by some of my ex-colleagues and now each time I visit the island off Kuala Kedah, I make a point to do a follow-up visit.

A few months ago, my wife, Michelle and I made a trip to Langkawi to cycle round-island.

One of the makan places that we visited was Restoran Kauboi (N 06°19’27.7”, E 99°50’38.2”), which is located smack in the middle of Kuah town.

It is not hard to locate this restaurant near Persiaran Mutiara 2, as it is situated along a row of Chinese restaurants.

Here, you can pick fresh seafood and the choices are really decent.

To get the ball rolling, I ordered a garoupa, kerabu chicken feet, stir-fried kangkung with belacan and orr-chien (fried oyster omelette).

And there was plenty of beer flowing as Michelle and I spent our last night in Langkawi.

We had the garoupa steamed Teochew-style and the taste was pretty decent.

As for the rest of the fare, we loved the kerabu chicken feet the best.

The worst dish on our table was the fried oyster omelette. It was just awful compared to what we had in Penang and Malacca.

Price-wise, our total bill came up to RM72 inclusive of a couple of beers.

This is quite standard considering the fact that Restoran Kauboi caters to tourists from the mainland.

On the quality of the food we had, I would rate it at 5 out of 10 on the Samo-scale.

The makan place opens daily for dinner and closes on certain days for Chinese festivals and other celebrations.
