Repairing is recycling

IT will be cheaper to buy a new one rather than fixing it.” How often have you heard that line each time an appliance – be it a TV, a kettle or a hair dryer – fails on you?

Unlike in the old days when things were repaired when they broke down, people these days are used to chucking away such things and often, it is simply because they cannot find someone who can, and will, repair the item. It does not help that things are not made to last these days, to fuel the culture of discarding and buying new – “planned obsolescence”, it’s called.
