No silver bullet

KUDOS to the article on antimicrobial resistance (Battle of the bugs, Fit4Life, April 10).

For too long now, we have accorded antibiotics a god-like status in the misguided belief that it will cure all our infections. The fact remains that more than 90% of upper respiratory tract infections are caused by viruses and do not need antibiotic treatment.
