I AM a native English speaker presently lecturing at a private college here. It is not for me, as a guest in this country, to make criticisms; however, there are three common and consistent mistakes in English that I read on a daily basis that are particularly irksome and could be easily corrected if anyone cared to bother.
The first is advertisements for “Hi Tea”. We’re not saying hello to it! The correct spelling is “High Tea”, referring to the “height” of afternoon around four or five o’clock when this meal is served.
