THE above title is not as cryptic as it sounds. Let me explain. Ours is a variety of English derived from British English (BrE) as a legacy of our colonial history. There are many varieties of English – in countries which had an early association with Britain (e.g. American English (AmE), Canadian English, Australian English, Indian English, Malaysian English) and in many other countries which use English as a second language for education, international communication and other purposes.
