When university student Arifah Farhanah Abd Halim was asked to do an assignment on soil degradation early this year, the final year psychology student was a little confused.

“I was wondering why we had to do an environmental project for our Sociology of Social Problems class. I didn’t see how soil could be a social problem,” says the Inti University student from Kuala Lumpur.
