After more than five decades in the entertainment industry, Hong Kong singer-actress Liza Wang is now planning her retirement, Dimsum Daily reported.
In a recent interview with Hong Kong media, the 78-year-old admitted that her memory is no longer as sharp as it once was.
As someone who has always held herself to high standards, Wang said what she finds hardest to accept is not ageing itself, but knowing that she may no longer be able to do everything as well as she once did.
She also acknowledged that continuing to push herself without being able to deliver her best would be unfair not only to her audience, but also to herself.
Hence, she will be more selective about the projects she takes on, prioritising work that she can "do properly and handle comfortably".
Earlier in June, Wang revealed plans to gradually reduce her workload over the next four to five years, depending on her physical condition.
At the time, she and her husband of 17 years – opera singer and actor Law Kar Ying – said it would be more practical to gradually step away from the spotlight while they are still in good health, rather than wait until they are no longer able to continue.
Even so, retirement does not necessarily mean Wang will fully disappear from the public eye.
She has previously spoken about becoming an influencer, saying after decades in showbiz, she has accumulated plenty of experience and could spend a long time sharing stories and anecdotes from her career.
For the record, Wang is a two-time cancer survivor, having battled thyroid cancer in 1985 and breast cancer in 2002.
The experience inspired her to become an executive committee member of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society, and she has since been actively involved in various charity initiatives and fundraising efforts supporting cancer patients.
