Hollywood star Anne Hathaway was gifted a copy of the Quran by a fan during the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in London, just days after she casually used the Arabic phrase "InsyaAllah" during an interview with American magazine People.
A video that quickly went viral on social media showed the Oscar-winning actress accepting the holy book of Islam while briefly interacting with the fan at the event.
The 43-year-old actress named "World’s Most Beautiful Star 2026" by the magazine left fans worldwide amused and surprised for using the phrase which means "if God wills" casually and correctly in the interview when speaking about her hopes for the future.
“I want to live a long and healthy life, InsyaAllah. I hope so,” she said in the interview.
Her remark drew mixed reactions online, with some social media users praising her openness to different cultures, while others criticised the comment.
The fan’s gesture of gifting Hathaway the Quran also prompted divided opinions, with some seeing it as a respectful act and others questioning its appropriateness.
It shows again how celebrities’ statements can quickly spark widespread discussion on social media, especially on religious and cultural sensitivities. - Sinar Daily
