The moment Deadliest Catch fisherman Todd Meadows went overboard and died was “unfortunately” caught on camera, according to his bunkmate, Trey John Green III.

Green was aboard the Aleutian Lady fishing boat when Meadows went into the waters of the Bering Sea, just off the coast of Alaska on Feb 25. He told US Weekly the crew “did everything we could to save” Meadows after he went overboard while crabbing.

When first responders reportedly located Meadows 10 minutes later, they were unable to resuscitate him. The rookie fisherman was 25 years old.

Captain Rick Shelford confirmed Meadows’ death on Facebook on Monday (March 2), writing that he’d just experienced “the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian lady.” He added: “We lost our brother, Todd Meadows.”

Deadliest Catch was wrapping its latest production cycle when the tragic incident occurred, with the Aleutian Lady being the last of the show’s boats still out at the time.

“Discovery is done filming, but there was a producer and a deck cam guy on the boat for the past two months filming for season 22 of the show,” Green explained.

“There is a deck cam as well that records 24-7, everything,” he continued, “and it caught everything from the incident as well.”

Green added that he was unsure whether the Discovery Channel would use the footage for the upcoming season.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows,” Discovery said in a statement to TMZ. “This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time.”
