Hong Kong film tycoon Charles Heung and his wife Tiffany Chen have opted to leave their two sons Jacky and Jonathan out of their inheritance plans.
In a TikTok video on Feb 25, Heung, 77, said the move stemmed from concerns over his sons’ limited business acumen and susceptibility to being deceived.
“If I leave the property to them, it will soon be cheated away,” he said, as quoted by Hong Kong news portal The Standard.
According to the report, Heung and Chen will set up a family trust to be managed by their daughter-in-law, Taiwanese actress Bea Hayden, who’s married to their eldest son Jacky, 41.
Heung added that Hayden is financially astute and careful with money – qualities that have given both him and his wife confidence about entrusting her with the assets.
The arrangement comes with specific conditions: grandchildren are prohibited from studying or immigrating to the United States, and Chen’s jewellery collection will be passed directly to her granddaughter.
Heung said Jonathan didn’t take the decision well, citing favouritism and unfairness.
He added that Chen has blocked Jonathan on WeChat, and the latter’s calls now have to go through a secretary.
“The will can be revised if both sons change their behaviour over the next decade,” he said.
