'How is this legal?': Chappell Roan goes (almost) naked at the Grammys

Chappell Roan is no stranger to bold fashion, but her latest red-carpet appearance has left parts of the internet visibly shaken.

The singer-songwriter made a headline-grabbing return to the Grammy Awards, stepping out in a sheer burgundy Mugler hooded gown that appeared to be held together by strategically placed rings.

The look, which also revealed embroidery-style faux tattoo designs across her chest and back, was unveiled moments after she unfurled the dramatic hooded silhouette on the carpet.

While Roan, who won Best New Artiste at last year’s Grammys and received two nominations this year for her single The Subway, appeared unfazed, social media users were quick to voice their disapproval.

Comments ranged from blunt disbelief to moral outrage. “That’s gross,” wrote one user, while another asked, “Can we step away from nudity and wear actual clothes? You’re not edgy or cool or will get respect.”

Others questioned how such an outfit was permitted at a high-profile awards show, with one comment reading, “How is this legal?”

Some reactions went further, calling for consequences. “She should be arrested for indecent exposure,” one commenter wrote, while another said Roan should have been “escorted off the red carpet,” arguing that the Grammys were meant to be a “classy event.”

Not all criticism was hostile, however. One user offered a more reflective take, admitting their own shift in perspective: “I don’t need to see entertainer’s body parts to enjoy their music. More power to her. I am clearly not her target audience.”

The divided reaction highlights a familiar red-carpet tension, where fashion, provocation and public expectations collide.

While daring looks have long been part of awards-show history, Roan’s outfit appears to have struck a particular nerve, reigniting debates about decency, self-expression and where the line is drawn at mainstream cultural events.

For now, Roan herself has not responded to the backlash. – Sinar Daily
