Kristin Cabot, the woman involved in the viral Coldplay kiss cam in July, admitted that the incident was a “bad decision” on her part and said she took accountability for it by giving up her career.
Cabot, former HR executive of Astronomer, made headlines along with the tech company’s CEO Andy Byron after their apparent “affair” was exposed through the kiss camera at the Coldplay’s show in Massachusetts back in July.
Cabot spoke up on the matter for the first time through a recent interview with The New York Times, lamenting the grave impact it had on her and her children’s lives.
“I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss. And it’s not nothing,” she recalled.
“I took accountability and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay,” she was quoted as saying, noting how she was asked by the company executives to return to her role but that she opted not to.
Cabot then admitted that while she had a “happy crush” on Byron when the incident happened, them being cozy at the concert was the first time they showed their affection toward each other.
“I was so embarrassed and so horrified. I’m the head of HR and he’s the CEO. It’s, like, so cliché and so bad,” she said. “We both just sat there with our heads in our hands, like, ‘What just happened?'”
She nonetheless clarified that she was in the process of splitting with her then-husband at the time, while Byron, she said, had supposedly indicated his own separation from his wife.
She revealed as well that she and Byron have only had minimal contact since September because “speaking with each other was going to make it too hard for everyone to move on and heal.”
“I’m sure a lot of people will say, ‘This is such a dead story, why bring it back up?’ But it’s not over for me, and it’s not over for my kids. The harassment never ended,” she lamented.
Cabot further disclosed how there came a point when even her children were “reluctant” to be seen with her in public.
“My kids were afraid that I was going to die and they were going to die,” she said. “They’re mad at me. And they can be mad at me for the rest of their lives — I have to take that.”
Addressing her children, Cabot added: “I want my kids to know that you can make mistakes, and you can really screw up. But you don’t have to be threatened to be killed for them.” – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
