Retired Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai rang in her 54th birthday on Wednesday (Oct 1) with thoughtful gifts from her family and an intimate dinner surrounded by loved ones.

The former TVB star took to Instagram to share pictures of herself with her birthday presents and a homemade strawberry cake lovingly prepared by her daughters.

“The most precious birthday gifts this year were the cake my daughters baked, the hand-drawn birthday card they made and the bouquet of flowers from my husband, who never fails to give me flowers each year,” she wrote in the caption.

Lai added that her special day wasn’t only about marking another year of life, but also about treasuring the deep bond she shares with her family.

“May we all continue to grow with love and happiness,” she wrote at the end of her post.

On Thursday, Lai shared a series of photos from her birthday dinner, along with a video capturing her delight as fireworks lit up the night sky outside her window.

Her photo dump was simply captioned: “Thank you all for the beautiful birthday wishes.”

For the record, Lai retired from acting at the peak of her career in 2008 to care for her younger brother, who was involved in a serious car accident.

She married billionaire Patrick Ma in 2009 and welcomed three daughters with him – 14-year-old twin girls, Patricia and Gianna, as well as 13-year-old Pegella.
