Authorities are looking into the “suspicious” death of Jaqueline Barbosa Nascimento, a young influencer who went missing during a trip with new friends in Brazil last week.

Fire department rescue teams discovered the 22-year-old’s body in the Jaguara Dam on Sept 3 after three days of searching, according to a translation of Brazilian outlet Metropoles.

Nascimento had last been seen on Aug 31 while jet skiing with two friends in Sao Paulo’s Igarata municipality.

While Nascimento is believed to have likely died from drowning, the Secretariat of Public Security said the case is being investigated as a suspicious death, reported Metropoles. They’re reviewing security camera footage from a nearby residence to establish the facts of the case.

Friends told Metropoles that Nascimento had been on the trip with people she had only met two weeks prior at a club.

“All our close friends and I begged her not to go because we wouldn’t be able to go with her,” Gabrielle Reis, one of Nascimento’s best friends, told the outlet. “Then she kept bugging us all week, saying, ‘Let’s do it, let’s do it.’ In the end, she just went.”

Reis, describing her friend as “naïve,” said the two had recently gotten into an argument over the way Nascimento was “living her life … so intensely.”

Nascimento – whose Instagram account is currently followed by over 12,000 people – last posted on on Aug 27, sharing a carousel of nightlife photos: “From a fun Friday out there LOL.”

The comments section is now filled with people mourning the sudden loss.

“Poor thing, that was her last post, so sad, my God,” one fan wrote.

Her last several posts on TikTok featured selfie videos of Nascimento in a bikini last week. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
